Virginia Irene Wiseman Bittinger was born November 12, 1927 to Joseph Louis Wiseman and Bertha Wood Wiseman in Akron, Ohio. She went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2019. She is preceded in death by her husband Edgar Glenn Bittinger and longtime Partner David William “Bill” Clark; her parents, sister, Sue Couts Gandy, sister Doris McCay and daughter-in-law Belinda Bittinger (Roger’s wife). She is survived by her sons, Richard Bittinger (Judy) and Roger Bittinger, Sr.; her sister, Joan Williamson; her 4 grandchildren, Gina Sigler, Richard Bittinger, Jr., Roger Bittinger, Jr., and Laura Turner; her 3 great-grandchildren, Emily Dean, Alex Sigler, and Samantha Turner; special relatives, Brent Clark and Robin Moses; nephew and nieces, David Couts, Suzanne DeRango, Holly Benninghoff and Gail McLaughlin.
Irene attended high school in Tallmadge, Ohio. She married her husband, Edgar Glenn Bittinger in Akron, Ohio on March 18, 1944. Irene was best known as the founder / owner-operator of the original “I-65 Diner/Smokey Hollow” in Jemison, AL before selling that business in the mid 80’s. She ended her career as a Secretary for Inner-Tech Systems. Irene was an avid bowler and loved all sports, especially Alabama Football and Braves Baseball! She played on leagues at The Vestavia Bowling Alley and Oak Mountain Lanes until she was 85 years old. She was also very involved with Trinity Episcopal Church in Clanton, AL where she was a beloved founding member and dedicated her time in always helping others.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00 PM.
