David Anderson, a lifelong resident of Ames, passed peacefully on January 16th, 2020 at the age of 68. David was a brilliant musician and a lifelong lover of music. His instrument of choice was the piano, which he played elegantly throughout his entire life, even in his final years. His favorite piece was Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt, which he used to win the Bill Riley talent search competition, resulting in a performance at the Iowa State Fair. David won many accolades in his musical career including winning the Iowa Music Teachers Association Competition at Iowa State University. In addition to the piano, David also played the violin, harmonica, and was also an avid organist, which he first practiced on at the Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames before purchasing his own organ to entertain his family at home. David studied Music Composition at the University of Iowa and later Iowa State University in the early 70s. A brother taken too soon, he is survived by his sister Barbara Anderson and nephew Neil Gerstein as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Harry Anderson, mother Helen Anderson, brother Joseph Anderson, and brother-in-law Greg Gerstein.
