About

Comprising 39 acres in Sacramento, off Jackson Road, Camellia Memorial Lawn is a beautiful place to honor a life. With sprawling green lawns, parklike sections, accommodations for both traditional in-ground burial as well as above-ground entombment, and a caring and engaged staff, the cemetery has served the area since 1963.

Cemetery grounds and gardens

Cemetery Grounds at Camellia Memorial LawnEach of the gardens at Camellia Memorial Lawn has its own special appeal. Camellia Terrace is very close to the cemetery entrance and offers single- and double-depth lawn crypts. The Good Shepard Garden allows for single- and double depth burial and is limited to flush memorials. Families who want upright monuments often choose burial in Whispering Hills, Shrine of Rest or Praying Hands, where a solid granite sculpture in the garden’s center has been engraved with the 23rd Psalm on one side and John 14:1-3 on the other.

The Field of Honor accommodates cremation burial and traditional casket burial for honorably discharged veterans. The Vietnamese Garden sits at the highest point of developed land in the cemetery. A large upright granite monument marks a sacred Native American burial ground, officially blessed for the Ione Band of Miwok Indians, and a testament that the cemetery appeals to many ethnicities in this area of California.

The most picturesque part of the memorial park is simply called Section A. Here, numerous old-growth trees provide plenty of shade and charm.

For families whose preference or tradition calls for above-ground entombment, Camellia Memorial Lawn offers placement in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, which includes glass-front cremation niches for the display of personal treasures. Its chapel accommodates committal services of up to 50 people, regardless of burial preference.

Cemetery Grounds at Camellia Memorial LawnApproximately 18 acres at Camellia Memorial Lawn are undeveloped, which means the memorial park has the capacity to serve Sacramento for many more generations. And because the cemetery is an endowment care facility, your family will never have to worry about the condition of the property: It will always be well-maintained.

Please contact us if you need immediate assistance, wish to tour our cemetery or would like more information about your burial options.

History

Founded in 1963 as Odd Fellows Memorial Lawn Cemetery No. 2, Camellia Memorial Lawn recorded its first interment in May 1968. At that time, the cemetery name was changed to Pioneer Memorial Lawn. Five years later, a group of 13 Sacramento funeral home owners bought the cemetery and renamed it again—to Camellia Memorial Lawn.

A number of those funeral home owners and their family members are now honored on the property. The Culjises, Skeltons and Herbergers are entombed in Camellia Terrace crypts. The rose garden in the center of the cemetery is dedicated to Olyn “Bud” Nightengale.
