He attended Rockwood High School and he graduated in 1960. He loved baseball and he loved playing on the Rockwood High team as pitcher which he was very good at. After graduating in 1960, he joined the Army as a Transportation Specialist and was stationed in France. He always said France was beautiful, but he hated the boat ride over there. Alvin was honorably discharged in February of 1967.
He then met Cheryl Walker and they married on November 18, 1966 and resided in Rockwood. They had two beautiful children, Guy in October 1967 and Laurie in November of 1968. Alvin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior when he was an adult and attended Grace Brethern Church.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Nevin Hay, and the love of his life, Cheryl Walker. He is survived by his son Guy and his wife, Catherine; daughter Laurie Myers and her husband Dave; grandchildren, Jacob Hay, Brayden Hay, Sarah Hay, Natosha and Wyatt Higgins, Annalee Myers, Shaytra (Coty) Bratt ; great grandchildren, Kysen Kral, Rone Bratt and Mattis Bratt.
Memorial services with military honors will be Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
