Barbara Lorraine (McEvers) Smith, 83, of Cary, North Carolina went to be with her Lord and Savior after a long battle with cancer, on March 28, 2021. She was in hospice at Transitions Lifecare of Raleigh. Her loving sister, Carolyn was by her side.
Barbara, a native of Sacramento, California was born December 14, 1937 to the late Charles McEvers and Edith (Fort) McEvers. Barbara grew up in Portland, Oregon. Upon completing her education, she became employed in a management position at Pacific Bell, later known as AT&T.
In 1959, Barbara married Holman C. Smith of California. Later, they relocated to various S. California towns like Torrence, Grass Valley and Hemet. Upon retirement, Barbara and Holman enjoyed traveling around the United States in their RV, caring for family and friends along their journey. They finally settled in Cary, NC in 2004. After her husband, Holman's death in 2006, Barbara journeyed to Beaufort, NC for 5 years before relocating back to Cary where she lived with her sister Carolyn.
Barbara was a devoted caregiver to family and friends and a gifted seamstress, always making clothing for anyone in need.
Barbara is survived by her loving sister, Carolyn Kapusta of North Carolina; her step-children, Shirley Walker of Oklahoma, Michael Smith and wife, Sue, of California, Paul Smith and wife, Doris, of Nevada and Gayle Koch of California; her nephews, Victor Kapusta and wife, Dana, of Maryland, and Paul Kapusta and wife, Ricarda, of Maryland; and her 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
An outdoor Memorial Service to honor Barbara's life will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612.
Family and friends are welcome to attend Barbara's service. Due to COVID-19 mask wearing and social distancing is required.
