Billy was born July 7, 1943 in Kinston, NC to L.F. and Melba Jones. A graduate of East Carolina University, he was employed with IBM, retiring with over 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Outlaw Jones and son, Billy F. Jones, Jr.,
and is survived by his son, Barry E. Jones of Raleigh; daughter, Rebecca J. Cooper (Tommy) of Cary; four grandchildren, Bryce E. Jones, Blair E. Jones, Jones O. Cooper and Molly J. Cooper; and brother Jerry Jones of Albertson.
“Jonesy” or “Papasan” loved golf and organized tournaments for many philanthropic causes over the years including the Boys & Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, Fallen Linemen Foundation, The Gary Treadwell Tournament for Cystic Fibrosis, the Mefine Foundation as well as numerous others.
His favorite golf tournament was The Myrtle Beach Blast which he put together for family and friends for more than 40 years and which is still going strong.
An exceptionally kind man, he was a friend to many, an enemy to none and always willing to dispense game-improvement advice
including his famous saying (while smoking a fine cigar)…”It ain’t the clubs”
