Carol was born May 25, 1933 in Frankenmuth, Michigan to the late Irvin and Verna Elizabeth Oldenburg Anderson. She was a successful entrepreneur and an accomplished author of children’s books with over 25 titles in publication around the world. Carol was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary, North Carolina.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Conrad Crane and her grandson, Blair Michael Crane.
Carol is survived by her sons, Matthew Crane (Brenda) of Vassar, Michigan, Patrick Crane (Kristine) of Orlando, Florida, and Tim Crane of Monroe, North Carolina; sister, Beth Anderson Johnston (Roger) of Frankfort, Michigan; six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Carol Crane was widely recognized by many schools and educators for her expertise in children’s literature. She conducted many in-service seminars for teachers at many schools across the country. She also instituted a summer-time favorite reading program for teachers and media specialists known as “Bed, Breakfast & Books”. A venue where authors, illustrators and educators would gather at a tranquil bed & breakfast resort to share thoughts and ideas on how to advance and promote children’s literacy. Carol was a member of the International & Michigan Reading Associations.
A memorial service will be held 1pm Friday, July 20, 2018 at Peace Presbyterian Church, 1777 W. Chatham Street, Cary, NC 27513. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
