Cathy was born on January 17, 1968 in Durham, NC to the late John Larkin Smith Jr and her surviving mother, Rebecca Dale Horton. Cathy spent many years in North Myrtle Beach before returning to the area. She and her husband enjoyed many years together riding their Harleys and camping in Myrtle Beach during Bike Week. Cathy was a huge Carolina Panthers fan and never missed a game. Cathy was full of life and always the life of the party. Cathy drove a school bus for Wake County Public School System for many years. She was loved so much by the children and their families. After the death of her dog Chopper, she fell in love with Bruno, her english bulldog. Bruno captured her heart and Cathy spent many hours enjoying the love only a fur baby can give.
In addition to her father, John Larkin Smith Jr., she is also preceded in death by her husband, C. Garry Edwards; grandparents, Thomas Horton and Catherine Horton, Larkin Smith Sr and Hazel Smith; and her dog, Chopper.
She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her dog, Bruno; mother, Dale Horton; sister, Sandy Harris (Donnie); niece, Brittany Harris; step-daughters, Cindy Tant and Kelli Bell; and step-grandchildren, Hannah Tant, Christopher Tant, Cheyanne Bell, Kaitlyn Bell and Mason Bell.
The family will receive friends and guests on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Apex Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Apex Funeral Home with burial to follow at Bells Church Cemetery, 686-932 Hortons Pond Rd. Apex, NC 27523.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be made in Cathy’s memory to Bells Baptist Church Cemetery, 1274 Farrington Rd. Apex, NC 27523.
