Darren was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He always spoke with fondness and pride about his hometown. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served a two year mission in Fukuoka, Japan. It was an experience he cherished throughout his life.
Darren later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. It was at BYU where he met his wife of thirty two years, Claudine Bye. They later moved to Connecticut where their sons Harrison Bye of Washington, DC and Graydon Bye of Apex, NC were born. They also spent 8 years in Maryland before moving to their current home in NC.
An accident in 2006 resulted in Darren’s paralysis from the waist down, which he faced courageously for almost two decades. Despite the odds, he continued to thrive both personally and professionally. As he continued regular physical therapy, he enjoyed spending time with his family traveling regularly throughout the United States and abroad. He truly loved and found much success in his construction career, most recently working for the Fred Smith Company in Raleigh, NC.
While Darren’s body presented challenges in his own life, it provided solutions in the lives of so many others through his commitment to being an organ donor.
Darren was an avid reader, with a love of military history. Especially World War II history. He also enjoyed music of all types and worked as a popular DJ during high school. For the past eight years, he enjoyed long walks with our spunky miniature schnauzer, Baloo.
In addition to his wife and sons, Darren is survived by his mother Pamela Bye of Utah, sisters Tracy Slagle(Washington), Amy Bye Nelson(Utah) and brothers Brad, Jeremy and Chad Bye(Washington).
Darren was pre-deceased by his father, Edward Bye.
