Esther Mathilda Volk passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the home of her beloved daughter, Diane and husband Ray. Born in Faribault, Minnesota on September 7, 1911 to parents Herman and Mathilda Lok, she was 100 years old when she passed. Esther was a spirited and strong willed hard working lady who kept her own house past the age of 99. Despite her advancing age she continued to be sharp and the life of family events. She always kept our family straight by giving great advice, cracking jokes and sharing stories about “the way things used to be.” Her days were kept full spending time watching the news and reading the local paper to keep up with current events. A former New Yorker (Go Mets!) she enjoyed baseball games and professional golf as well as flowers, gardening, Esther could make any plant flourish, needlepoint and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved children Ron Volk and his wife Maija, Paul Volk, Diane (Volk) Kuzdrall and husband Ray; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 204 West Salisbury Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607, or Community Luncheon Program at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 204 West Salisbury Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
