George Murdock of Fuquay Varina, NC passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 10, 2025 at the age of 74. Born in Woodside, NY where they grew up, George was the youngest son of the late Marion and John “Jack” Murdock.
George graduated as summa cum laude with a degree in computer science. He began his software engineer career with Bell Labs and continued with other software companies throughout the years, where he developed various software platforms. His longest tenure was with IBM, and he finished his career with one of the premier agencies involved with the security of our country where he developed code for security interfaces.
He was involved with the Knights of Columbus; enjoyed spending time with family and friends; swimming, especially with his grandkids; and taking his granddaughters out for ice cream. George had a zest for life and was an avid fan of Turner Classic Movies and Jeopardy. He loved family game nights, going to the Irish pub on St. Patty’s Day, and was a good sport in dressing up for Halloween parties. He previously taught religious education at various parishes, most recently at St. Bernadette Catholic Church alongside his wife, Patricia. George’s deep Catholic faith guided him every day and sustained him through his recent health challenges.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Elena Murdock; brothers, John “Johnny” and James “Jimmy” Murdock; and parents Marion and John “Jack” Murdock.
He is survived by his current wife, Patricia Caputo-Murdock; and children from his first marriage, John Murdock (Kaitlyn) and Susan Bailey (Joey). His grandchildren Emily, Mia, and Jaxon were his greatest joy! Through marriage he gained very special relationships with his bonus family – Tricia Ledek (the late Mike Ledek), Charlie Caputo (Christine), Freddie Caputo (Alida), Alicia, Brittany, Stephanie, Dana, Thomas, and Jenna. He leaves behind a large circle of extended family and dear friends.
George loved his family deeply and we loved him just as fiercely. He was the type of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. Although many family traditions won’t be the same without him, we will cherish each memory.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Fuquay Varina, NC on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 11:00 am.
Interment to follow at Fellowship Community Cemetery in Angier, and guests are invited to return to the church afterwards for a luncheon with the family.
