George R. Stoner, 72, of Sanford died January 11, 2011 after a valiant fight with cancer. He was born March 19, 1938 in Latrobe, PA to John Clay and Margaret “Burkholder” Stoner. George was a steelworker in Pennsylvania before relocating to the Apex area in 1979.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his son Richard D. Stoner in 1991.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Carolyn “Rollins” Stoner; sons, Michael C. Stoner of Sanford and Curtis W. Stoner and his wife Cheryl of Raleigh; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St (Hwy 55), Apex, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Apex Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stoner Family to help with funeral expenses.
