Mr. Barkes is survived by his wife, Shirley S. Barkes; sons: Richard W. Barkes, and Scott E. Barkes; 4 grandchildren, and a great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes St., Apex.
