John Robert Lechner

John was born April 29, 1941 in Rochester, NY to the late James and Francis Shiley Lechner. He was a graduate of Niagara University and a veteran of the US Army. John acquired the nickname “Grumpy” (aka-Grampy) from his grandkids, which he joyfully embraced. John cherished making memories with his grandchildren, telling stories, and most of all, family.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Pete and Dan Lechner.

John is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Shiley (Matt), Shannon, Megan Horning (Mike), Katie (Brad), and Sara; sons, Tim (Alicia), Todd (Julie), Michael, J.R., Joey (Sam), and Steven (Michelle); sister, Kitty Conroy (Jim); brothers, Jim (Sally), Joe (Betty), and Dick (Maureene), Donna Lechner (Sister In Law); grandchildren, Justin, Ashlyn, Jacob, Emma, Brody, R.J., Julianna, Landon, Devin, Charlie, and Davie.

A Funeral Mass will be held 4pm Friday, February 28, 2020 at Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 725 Magdala Place, Apex, NC 27502. The family will receive friends 1:30pm-3:30pm Friday, February 28, 2020 at Apex Funeral Home, 550 W. Williams St., Apex, NC 27502.
