Joe was united in marriage to Carolyn on April 22, 1967, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, faith, and family that spanned nearly 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Davis, and is survived by his sisters, Pat (Dominican Sister Joyce Ann) Hertzig, and Joyce Hertzig.
Joe was a proud and loving “Pa” to his four sons: John, Michael (Shawn), Greg (Alyssa), and Tim (Kerri). He did everything for his boys, including coaching them in baseball, basketball, and soccer. He was the kind of dad who would insist his boys get a paper route to learn responsibility, but would often then deliver their newspapers himself so that his young sons wouldn’t have to wake up early.
In more recent years, his greatest joy was being “Grandpa” to his seven grandchildren: Morgan, Cassie, Charlotte, Brody, Madison, Sadie, and Nate, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Professionally, Joe built a career as an accountant with Mutual of Omaha, where he was known for his integrity, dedication, and strong work ethic.
A lifelong lover of sports, he played American Legion baseball for the Murphy Did-Its team in Omaha, and was especially passionate about Nebraska Huskers football. Joe even ran three marathons, a testament to his commitment, determination, and strength.
Above all, Joe will be remembered for his love for his family, his wonderful sense of humor, and the example he set through his actions. We’ll miss you, Coach.
