Judith Ann Scherer

Judith “Judy” Ann (Day) Scherer, 79, a resident of Cary, Apex and Fuquay Varina over the past 24 years, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at her home on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Judy was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from Libbey High School in 1958. After graduation, she worked at Traveler’s Insurance Company. On June 18, 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, David Scherer. Judy and her family moved from Ohio to Boca Raton, Florida in 1970, where she worked at IBM Corporation. In July 1996, Judy and her husband of 59 years and 9 months, moved from Boca Raton, Florida to Cary, North Carolina, and later to Apex and Fuquay Varina, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She retired from IBM in May 2003. Judy enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, and gardening. She loved being a “Mama” and spending time with family. She had the most contagious laugh, and a smile that would light up any room. Judy is survived by her loving husband, David, daughters, Patricia A. (Joseph) Moss, Suzanne L. (James) Northington, and Lisa M. (Charles “Joey”) Olsen, ten grandchildren, Kristen (Nick) Pupa, Kati (Jeff) Holden, Jennifer (Kyle) Fenner, Kate (Ryan) Augustine, James Northington, Tom Northington, Robert (Shannan) Olsen, David (Lauren) Olsen, and Rebecca Olsen, as well as her six great grandchildren, Gavin Pupa, Weston Pupa, Kendall Pupa, Chandler Holden, Reese Holden and Will Fenner. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oliver (Ollie) and Dorothy Day, brother James Oliver Day, and granddaughter Kelly Ann Moss. A viewing will be held at Westwood Baptist Church, 200 Westhigh Street, Cary North Carolina on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm with a service to immediately follow at 2:00pm. Apex Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Interment will be at Wake Memorial Park, 7002 Green Hope School Road Cary, NC 27519. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Westwood Baptist Church Cary, North Carolina or The Alzheimer’s Association.
