Mrs. Scalco always made the best homemade pitzells, and ricotta stuffed manicotti.  I remember eating 10 manicotti at her house (Bea is still my dearest friend) when we were in our early 20's.

Mrs. Scalco ( never could call her by her first name) will be missed .  I have so many fond memories of  her and her mom when I would come to her house to pick up Maria.  She always made me feel welcome in her home.

I first met Marie when she brought her granddaughter, Julianna to Faith Formation second grade class at St. Andrew's where I taught.  
During one of the classes, Julianna told a sweet story about finding Marie's mother's garden chair when visiting family in New Jersey and how happy that made them.

But, I got to know Marie really well when I joined Friday Morning Bible Study.  Marie's openly shared her deep faith to all of us and was an inspiring witness to God's love.

There are no words that can express the loss of Marie to her husband, George, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.   May the soul of Marie rest in eternal peace.

My grandmother had a way of making each person she met feel loved and special. She made you feel thought of. If she wasn't cooking something she knew you liked, she had something small to give you. If she wasn't doing that, she was making sure you knew how loved you were. And she was dancing constantly, which is what helped her spread her joy. 
We were all so lucky to have a woman who taught us what being cared for, thought of, and loved meant. I know how much she loved me because she told me every chance she got. I am grateful for all of my time with her and that I got to learn how to make gnocchi from the best. 
While I'm sad she is gone, I can't help but smile every time I think of her because I was so lucky to have her in my life. From trips to Wildwood, her vitis to NJ, our visits to NC, multiple trips to Italy, and early mornings while I drank tea and learned about what books she was reading or listening to childhood stories, I am so fortunate to have known her. I can hear her singing to me, telling me she loves me, laughing until she's crying in Wildwood, and picture her dancing.

Quality time with Mom-Mom consisted of watching vintage films, dancing to jazzy music, and eating her classic Italian egg frittatas. During my visits, I would do her exercises alongside her and her aid and join her for walks around the block. When I would play piano for her she would gleefully hum along, a delight for both of us. 

As the youngest grandchild, most of my memories of Mom-Mom took place during her final years when her ability to communicate continued to slip.  Despite this, she never hesitated to tell us how much she loves us (either verbally or with her classic 👁 ♥️ U). Her unconditional love and appreciation will be a quality very much missed by all of her children, grandchildren, friends, and family.

Caring for Marie was one of my best care-giving experiences. I got to know Marie and her family while  caring for her, what a loving family! Her life is a testament of love, resilience and cherished memories. She’ll be missed, her presence will linger in the hearts of her loved ones. 
You will be missed, Rest in peace! ❤️

I met Marie in the Friday Morning Bible Study at St. Andrew's.  She shared her faith and her family stories with us.  I'll always remember her tellilng us about the Feast of the Seven Fishes which is an Italian tradition on Christmas Eve.  She also told us about the prayers she usually said before going to bed.  Marie prayed more each night than I pray in a week! Rest in peace Marie,  I am blessed to have known you.

George, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this incredibly difficult time. Avis and I were fortunate to have grown close to Marie. She was the epitome of a warm, social person who truly enjoyed connecting with others. Her genuine interest in people shone through, and she was always sincere when asking about your life and those you hold dear.

We were so touched when Marie invited us over for dinner. It was an unforgettable evening—what an incredible meal! To this day, we talk about it with family and friends. Whenever we went out to dinner with her, she had a way of lighting up the entire restaurant.

Avis and I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to know Marie and share part of our journey through life with her. She was kind, loving, and compassionate. Though she is no longer with us, she will forever remain in our thoughts and prayers.

During times like this, we’ve always found comfort in the following Irish blessing, and we wanted to share it with you:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Tony and I are truly sorry for your loss. I will always remember your mom on our marathon shopping trip to the King of Prussia Mall. Her non stop energy and enthusiasm for shopping was epic!

Marie will be dearly missed. She always had a loving smile and lively conversation at our encounters before and after mass. 
May the road rise to meet her, may the wind be always at her back, may the sun shine warm upon her face, and may the rains fall soft upon her fields. And until we meet again, may God hold her in the palm of His hand.

When we suffer a loss of a person, it means we have been lucky to have had that same person in our lives. It would be too simplistic to only point to the generosity we all benefited from her. She gave us more than that. She set an example to follow about how pursuing anything in life is based on hard work and not using shortcuts. The person may pass, but her role model would still be embedded in those who had the pleasure to share life with her.

We are so very sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. She was completely devoted to her family. We last saw her when we spent  a wonderful lunch at their home. Good conversation, a tour of the family museum, and delicious food. The love story of Marie and George is beautiful and serves as an inspiration for their family.

One of the last Triangle Sons and Daughters of Italy  events that Marie was able to attend was our Italian American Heritage Celebration in October 2024.  I will always remember her that day.  While her health was compromised, when all of us stood up to clap, sing, and dance to "Mamma Maria", Marie garnered the strength to stand on her own and join in the fun. It was a miraculous burst of energy and engagement that will always stay with me, and most likely many others who were in attendance.  

As a longer term member of the Lodge, Marie Scalco was our "Mamma Maria" and we will miss her dearly.

My condolences to all the members of the Scalco family.  I have enjoyed talking with Marie over the years at TSDOI  events and seeing her at the opera.  

She will be missed.

It is always the most difficult to say goodbye (for now) to the people who make the biggest impacts on the lives of those around them. Marie was that kind of person.  She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and happy memories. Her faith and her love for her family and friends was inspirational.  She will always be remembered with love by all those who knew her.

Aunt Marie , my mentor growing up and learning all the values she taught me in life about love, kindness and respect.  I am who I am today because of her.  The best memories of  Aunt Marie and Uncle George taking me to the beach on vacations, eating dinners with my cousins, holding hands in prayer.  So many wonderful memories.  Aunt Marie will always be in my heart and the hearts of everyone who she touched.
