Patsy Carol Laliberte, a woman of boundless love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, at the age of 84. Born in Richmond, Virginia, on May 31, 1940, Pat lived a life full of cherished memories, joy, and deep connections.
Pat is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Thomas, and son-in-law, Andrew Thomas; her brother, Tim Westmoreland; her grandsons, Dustin Clark (wife Jennifer Clark) and Brennan Clark (partner Madeline Preiss); as well as her step-grandchildren, Evan Thomas and Abigail Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Sue Westmoreland, and her siblings, James McClammy, Ralph Billings, and Diane Westmoreland. Pat was immensely proud of her family and found her greatest happiness in the love and joy they brought to her life.
A dedicated single mother, Pat worked tirelessly to provide for her family, often holding down three jobs to make ends meet. Yet, she always made time to be the "cool mom," the Scout leader, the volunteer who was there at every school and ballet event, and the constant source of support for her daughter Suzanne. As Suzanne grew into adulthood, Pat’s love extended to several foster daughters, including Patty Polsino, whom she raised from the age of seven.
Pat’s passion for children and the arts was evident in her tireless work at Suzanne’s ballet schools in New York (New Paltz School of Ballet) and later in Cary, NC (Cary Ballet Conservatory). She adored the young dancers, taking pride in their growth both as performers and as individuals. A beloved figure in the “dance family” community, Pat was affectionately known as "Mama Pat" and "Grandma Pat," titles she embraced with warmth, wisdom, and open arms. Her impact on the lives of those she nurtured at the ballet school was immeasurable.
Pat will be remembered for her kindness, fierce strength, and ability to bring people together with laughter and love. Her warmth and selflessness created lasting bonds, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
