With deep sorrow and unwavering hope, we announce the passing of Richard Thomas Banks III, beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, who entered into the presence of his Savior and Lord on March 21, 2026 at the age of 48. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Banks. Richard is survived by his wife, Angela Banks, children Richard Banks IV and Alexa Banks, father Richard Banks Jr, brother Donald Banks and wife Debra, nephews Donald Banks Jr and Dillon Banks and wife Ericka, father- and mother-in-love James and Betty Nichols, and countless extended family and friends.
Born on February 8, 1978, Richard grew up with strong family values, a resilient spirit and a strong work ethic. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and developed an ever-growing, unshakable faith in his Lord.
Richard married the love of his life, his beautiful wife Angie, and together they shared 23 amazing years of marriage, a testimony to devotion, faithfulness and enduring love. They were often referred to as “relationship goals” as they spent almost every moment together and loved doing so. Richard and Angie did everything together including working together since college. Where you found one, you found the other. They were truly as one and two halves to the same whole. After their marriage, Richard and Angie made their home in Apex, North Carolina, building a life centered around family, faith, friendship, and service to others. Their life together was filled with joy, laughter, their church, and an unwavering support for one another. Theirs is a love that will endure forever.
Richard was a proud and dedicated father to Richard and Alexa. One of his greatest joys was being their father. He loved them so well. Richard was a very involved dad, from coaching his son’s basketball games and teaching him to drive, to dancing with his daughter at her AHG daddy/daughter dance and enjoying her band concerts and art, he never missed a special moment in their lives. He was a lover of woodworking and working in his yard and enjoyed spending time teaching those skills to his kids. Richard was also very involved with his son’s Boy Scout troop and was an inspiration to and loved by both leaders and scouts alike.
Richard was a wealth of wisdom, both Biblically and worldly. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do or couldn’t figure out how to do, and he wasn’t afraid to try anything. Give him a few minutes and he would figure it out. Richard knew his Bible so well, and shared that wisdom with others. He was a middle and elementary school Sunday School teacher, interim youth leader, Men’s Bible study leader, Life group leader, deacon and elder at different times in his life. He enjoyed discussing the Bible and his love of Jesus with others in an uplifting and challenging but encouraging way. His goal was always to help others grow in their faith.
In addition to owning a successful business for almost 10 years, Richard spent his career as a Project Manager for an Engineering firm where he was respected for his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic. He spent his time forming friendships and earning the admiration of colleagues who valued his steady presence and commitment.
Richard was full of life and laughter and love. There was never a dull moment when he was around and he brought joy to every situation and everyone he interacted with. If you needed a hug, he was your man. Most everyone he knew would say that he introduced himself with a hug. Richard never met a stranger and although he had a big personality, he was a kind and gentle soul. He has left a huge hole in the lives of everyone he knew and will be greatly missed and loved forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Point Church on 1503 Walnut St. Cary, NC 27511 on Saturday, March 28th, 2026 at 3:00 PM.
