Richard Alan Mial, son of William Paul and Barbara Joan Powers Mial went to be with his Lord on April 12, 2024, from his home in Cary, North Carolina. He was born on June 13, 1957, in Montclair, New Jersey. One year old Rick became an international traveler when he set sail with his parents to Tangier, Morocco in 1958. He made his first attempts at walking while sailing on some very troubled seas and quickly decided that crawling would serve his purposes better until further notice!
In 1959, Rick moved from Tangier to Cap Ferrat, France until 1962 at which time the family relocated to Chatham, New Jersey, the home of Trans World Radio. In 1964, Rick experienced yet another international move to the Island of Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles where he began his formal education in the Dutch language.
In 1970, the Mial family was reassigned to Monte-Carlo, Monaco where Rick continued his studies, this time in the French language. He was seated next to the Prince of Monaco, Albert, who became a good friend. Rick completed his Baccalaureate in Economics. He moved back to the States and attended Northeastern Bible College. From 1977 to 1981, he attended Le Tourneau University in Longview, Texas, majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology, followed by one year at Tyler School of Business in Tyler, Texas. He was subsequently employed as Service Department Manager from 1979 to 1989 at Kawasaki Unlimited, Longview, Texas. From 1990 to 1997, Rick worked in the Health Care Insurance Industry. He furthered his education at New Horizons RTP and worked at IBM in their test lab division for several years.
His daughter, Summer, was always the love of his life.
In 2005, Rick experienced a life changing car accident which ultimately prevented him from future employment. He then enjoyed connecting with friends online and walking around the lake at Brampton Moors with friends from Peace Church.
Rick’s spiritual journey began when as a young child, his mother explained to him the Gospel and he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Rick’s favorite book of the Bible was Philippians and a favorite verse was "…For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Phil. 1:21.
A friend has said of Rick….”Rick never met a stranger!”
Rick is survived by his father, William P. Mial, his sister, Sandra Lynn Mial Swanson and his daughter, Summer Renee Mial.
Memorial Service to be held at Peace Presbyterian Church, 1777 West Chatham Street, Cary, NC 27513 on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 2 PM.
