Rodney was born on May 5, 1963 in Greenville, NC to his father, Charles Benfield and his late mother, Ruth Hill Benfield. He loved the outdoors, fishing, his family, and sharing a laugh. He held the NC State record in 2002 for the largest caught Spanish mackerel weighing in at 10 lbs. 4ozs.
He is preceded in death by his mother.
He is lovingly remembered by his father, Charlie Benfield; sister, Deana Bass; brother in law, Jeffrey Bass and nephews, Justin Bass, Jeremy Bass, and Joshua Bass.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Apex Funeral Home, Apex, NC.
