

Shirley was born June 2, 1935 on the Olive family farm in Wake County, NC to the late Gordon and Pauline Abernethy Olive.
Shirley believed deeply in God and had the spiritual gift of a servant's heart. Shirley was best known for always taking care of everyone else and will always be remembered for her Sunday after Church meals. Everyone that walked through her door was made to feel like family. She dearly loved her family and friends, her greatest wish for everyone she loved was that they should all come to know the love of Jesus.
Shirley worked for 30 years taking care of students in the Dental Hygiene Program at the UNC Dental School. After retirement she worked for 12 years with the Wake County Schools Child Nutrition Services.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Caraway; Parents Gordon and Pauline Abernethy Olive ; grandson, Lance Eakes ; son, Earl Caraway; sister, Betty Lou Dennis and her husband Channie ; and nephew, Chris Cash.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Gordon Eakes (Carol), Lewis Eakes (Betsy), and John Eakes (Tammy), Keith Caraway (Enola), Julie Morava (Dan); Debbie Elkins (Larry), Donnie Caraway (Alice), sister, Mary Woodall (Woody); 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 2pm Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Olive Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Apex. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of her son John and daughter in law Tammy.
