Those little gestures that Trevor used to do for us, we can all choose to do. And when we choose to add those little gestures into our daily lives, we keep Trevors magic alive. We know we are strong enough to do this, because we have Trevor in our hearts to guide us. And we know that Trevor is just there on the other side of the known, cheering on our every success and supporting us through every battle. And we find that Trevor is not so far away because he is still here guiding us to be better friends, and better people. And so from this tragedy, we make magic. Not just any magic, but Trevor’s magic 🪄✨

The last trip Trevor and I took to the mountains was for Easter at Grammy’s house. We drove up on a Friday night together after having to work a long week. It was then I got to introduce him to one of my favorite bands, Rising Appalachia. It’s a folk band, so not Trevor’s typical cup of tea. But the album Leylines is like medicine for the soul, and I had been listening to it to help overcome the loss of my grandmother. Now I’m not going to sing because at least ten of you would end up deaf, but the lyrics of one song, called Make Magic, go “what are we going to do with the wicked of the world? Make magic, make magic, make magic.” Trevor listened to the entire album (plus a couple others) with me, and we danced (albeit in our seats) the whole way to the mountains. This is just one example of the little things Trevor would do to bring joy to his friends every day. Trevor made magic every single day. 

There is a feeling of deep loss that comes with having to say goodbye to your best friend too soon, and I am sure I am not the only one to feel this way. Many of us may be asking ourselves “why?” I do not have the answer to that question. But I do know the question to “what?” What do we do now that we are forced to accept this unwanted reality without Trevor? We make  magic✨

How? Take a moment to think about you favorite thing Trevor did for you as a friend. Maybe it was the birthday messages. Maybe it was that he always had a good joke to share. Maybe it was making fun of literally every single other person in your entire family. Maybe it was just hanging out playing video games or yelling about sports at the house. Maybe it was something else I didn’t mention. Whatever your favorite thing Trevor did as a friend, think about it for a moment and how you can implement it in your daily life. Find ways to do that for your friends. Be the Trevor you want to see in the world.

Here is my speech from Trevors celebration of life.  I could not fit the whole speech in one post so split it into 2 posts. 


For anyone that does not know me, I am Ashley, Trevor’s cousin. As cousins go, Trevor and I have always had a special, and particularly close bond. He was more of a best friend to me. Many people that know me, know me as someone that does “hard things.” But today, giving this speech on behalf Trevor, taken from us far too soon, will be the hardest thing I have yet done, so please excuse me if I get emotional at points. 

Over the past 2 weeks I’ve seen people reaching out to the family and reading the posts from everyone. And one thing that has become apparent is that Trevor had A LOT of best friends. Now at first you start thinking “well some of these people HAVE GOT TO be lyin’ cause how many best friends can one guy have?”

But with Trevor, it’s true. Everyone that came to know Trevor called him “best friend.” Trevor valued family and friends. And with Trevor, there was no distinction between the two. If you were his friend, you were his family. Trevor did all the things, both small gestures and large, to show he cared. And he did these things every day. Friends were his priority, and we all could feel that love from Trevor. All those little things he did, allowed us to make those deep connections that have an everlasting impact despite the short time he had with him. I know I have, and I am sure everyone else here too has, been missing those little gestures that could turn a bad day good.  (1/2) 

Trevor, I still haven’t fully processed that you are gone, and I am not sure it will fully hit me until the holidays when we have a massive hole in our family at Grammy’s house. You were one of my best friends and truly had a massive impact on me and who I am. Since you moved back to NC from Texas until high school we were inseparable. I will never forget all the times we had at my place and yours every single weekend growing up. From hockey tournaments, video games, beach vacations, the mountains we had many good times. Even as we grew further apart and life happened, every time I saw you, you were still the same joyous person filled with laughter that I loved. We never skipped a beat when we got back together and I am heartbroken that those times have come to an end. Trevor had many flaws, I think we all know that, but even among his hard times he was still one of the most kind and generous beings that there were and was always a joy to be around. He truly cared about other people and never forgot to text you that he loved you after seeing him.  He was one of the rocks in the family and truly valued it. He never missed an event and was a bridge to others and got along with everyone. Whether that was a bridge between me and my sister, my other cousin Stephen, he always was on everyone’s side. One example that we laugh about now was Trevor being a mediator between Stephen and I as kids, even when they were so bad that it involved putt putt and swimming(a story for another time).  Trevor you will be sorely missed, but I know that you are resting easy now. Until next time. I love you man.

Remember that one time he swallowed a marble and thought he was going to die? 

I remember Trevor and your entire family moving into Dogwood Ridge.  Trevor became fast friends with Michael snd John.  I could always find Mike at the Bennet’s house 😊.  Then you started inviting him to the Horne family beach trips and let’s just say he adopted you as a 2nd family.  Mike loves you all and especially Trevor ♥️ 

We are so sorry for your loss.  We have lots of good memories of Trevor and all the boys!  You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

Trevor was such a bright soul with a big heart. He inspired me with his knowledge of sports and music. While I'm not a big hip hop/rap fan, I'll never forget when Trevor shared with me freestyle videos of really talented artists in his living room. We'd laugh, smile, and head bob along with the videos. Ah man, that smile. I'll never forget it. It filled the room. You'll be missed Trevor. I love you brother.

Wendy, Jesse, Trevor and Sydney lived next door to us in Allen, Tx. When the kids were about 3-4 they happened to look up to our roof to see our daughter, Erin stretched out outside her second floor bedroom gazing at the moon in typical teenage fashion. I remember Wendy having to explain to them “why we don’t get out on roofs” but sometimes teenagers do. 

Horne Family beach trips are a family & friends affair.  Trevor always brought our bonus family members.  

So sorry for the loss of your son my heart is breaking hugs for you and your family. Love you Wendy 

Much love to all of the family from relatives in Maryland. Even though the years and miles have made physical closeness difficult, the stories, the memories that have lingered, the bond that only kinship can bring, place us there with you.
