Charles “Bud” Richard Henderson, more affectionately “Pawpaw”, was born May 25, 1933 in Pampa, Texas. Bud spent his entire life dedicated to his family, his church, and his country. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served during the Korean War. During that time he was sending his money home to help support his family. After serving in the military he married Lavelle in 1955. They were happily married until Lavelle’s passing in August of last year.
Bud made several contributions to his country outside of serving in Korea. He worked as an electrical engineer after graduating from Texas A&M in 1960. He holds several U.S. Patents as a result of his efforts. He worked with a very small team to develop and hone a very sophisticated missile defense system for the U.S. government. His crowning achievement was working with the U.S. Postal Inspector, developing the bar-coding and sorting system used by the United States Postal Service today.
Bud, like his wife Lavelle, was also an active member of his church serving as the church treasurer and a member of the church vestry for many years. In his community he was a member of the Rock Creek Men’s Bar-b-que club. He was also an active golfer, taking up the hobby upon his retirement. Above all, he was a dedicated family man, a beloved grandparent, and the all important patriarch of his family.
Bud leaves behind his son Mark Henderson and wife Lesa, his daughter Robin Luecke and her husband Bob, his nephew Jay Henderson; and four grandchildren Kelsi, Aaron, Brittani, and Blake. He will be honored Saturday March 8, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at 11am. Visitation will be held at the Moore Funeral Home on Friday March 7, 2014 at 6pm.
