Chuck was born on February 15, 1933, the first of two sons born to William Gilbert (Gib) Smith and Dorothy (Dot) Jewel Hollingsworth Smith. Chuck was a lifelong member of the Handley United Methodist Church, which was built by members of the Smith clan. Later he was a member of the Cahill United Methodist Church in Alvarado, TX. Chuck enjoyed the great outdoors whether hunting, fishing, or simply walking through the woods admiring God’s “handiwork.”
A lifelong carpenter, having lived the majority of his life in his beloved Fort Worth, he had a hand in a great number of buildings, churches, and schools around the Metroplex. He took great pride in his craft. Not only was he the son of a carpenter, but he was the father of carpenters as well.
Chuck is survived by his brother William Gilbert Smith, Jr. and his wife Barbara in Miami, OK.; the love of his life, Kathryn Harris Smith; sons Charles C. Smith II and wife Andrea, Rickie L. Smith and wife Jeanne, Jesse G. Smith, Vincent W. Smith and wife Carol, and Julian L. Smith and wife Patricia; daughters Kathi Mansfield, Connie Carroll and husband Sam, Marilyn Erickson, Kim Spencer and husband James, and Kristi Whitten and husband Lonny; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Dot.
