

Conway was born in Texarkana, Ark-Tex to Conway and Lodie Cook, March 14, 1923. He graduated from Texarkana Texas High School where he was active as a cheerleader and represented his school as the “Most Popular Boy”. Attended Texarkana College and Oklahoma State, Stillwater, OK in an air corps program of Engineering and Operations. Conway served with the Army Air Force from 1943 – 1945, all of which were spent overseas. He was stationed in North Africa, Gibraltar, Portugal, Naples, Rome and Treviso, Italy. As a Staff Sergeant in liaison for Allied Forces he was assigned to Mediterranean Air Transport Command. He received ATO and ETO metals with 2 Bronze Stars.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Kathleen Carter Cook, second wife Amye Clem Cook and son Gregory Essex Cook, and parents Conway and Lodie Cook.
Conway had been associated with the steel industry most of his life. He retired in 1985 as Area District Manager for O’Neal Steel Inc., Shreveport, La. He was an avid tennis player, golfer with memberships in East Ridge Country Club and Pierremont Oaks Tennis Club, Shreveport. He is survived by his wife LaNelle McLarty Cook, sister Mary Jo Essex, Texarkana, Tx., son C. O. “Tanker” Cook III & wife Erica, Chicago, IL, daughter Candace K. Cook, Belleair, FL, grand-children, John Cook & wife Stephanie, Amye Shumaker & husband Eddie, Caroline Peltier & husband Grant all of Cypress, Tx., Elizabeth and Erin-Kate Earnest of Austn, Tx., great-grand-children Brandon & Sean Cook, Mandi & Ashley Shumaker, Luke & Nicole Peltier all of Cypress, Tx., Step-Children Michael McLarty & wife Linda, Betsy Saunders & husband Bill all of Arlington, Tx., step-grand-children Brian Saunders & wife Ashley of College Station, Tx., Kelly Sheppard & husband Ryan of Mobile, AL., great-grand-step-children William Saunders and Audrey Sheppard.
Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, Arlington, Texas on June 23, at 11 AM.
