Dr. Upton was born in Riverside, California on February 20, 1938 and spent time in both California and Missouri before moving to Dallas upon high school graduation. He graduated from UTA and studied medicine at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas which he completed in 1965. He lived in Denver, Colorado while doing his internship and practicing Family Medicine. He then took a residency in Dermatology in Long Beach, California. In 1976, he moved to Arlington, Texas to begin his almost thirty years of Dermatology practice.
Dr. Upton loved world travel, reading and learning about world history, geography, medicine and other subjects. He believed a person should never stop learning and collected books on a variety of topics.
Dr. Upton belonged to several medical societies and was the Director of Continuing Medical Education at Arlington Memorial Hospital for many years. In 2004, he received the Physician of the Year Award from the Arlington Medical Society because of his dedication to continued learning.
Dr. Upton passed away on August 31, 2024. Surviving family include his wife of sixty-six years, Martha as well as a son, Gary and wife Marilyn, a daughter Shelley and husband Barry. He also leaves a granddaughter, Caitlin and future husband Dustin and grandsons Colin, Alex and wife Alexa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hadley, and a beloved granddaughter Elizabeth.
Above all his accomplishments and interest in many things, his love of family was the most important thing in his life.
