Susie was born February 24, 1941 in Goose Creek, Texas to Sterling and Marguerite Troxell. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and then attended North Texas University in Denton. She had a career at General Motors in the Service Parts Operations and retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service. After retirement, she worked part-time for Dr. Mike Kavanaugh at Arlington Family Dentistry.
Being an avid golfer, Susie played for more than 40 years in courses all over Texas. She was a member of the Arlington Women's Golf Association for many years and received several awards, including Club Champion Runner-up and Most Improved Golfer. She was also a member of the Cedar Creek Country Club, Waterchase Golf Club, and Mulan Ladies Golf Club. She never turned-down an opportunity to play a new course and was amenable to playing with both pros and novices alike. She was a patient and nurturing teacher who enjoyed coaching beginners, as well as helping fellow golfers improve their game.
Susie was a life-long supporter of the arts. She loved seeing new theater productions on Broadway or in whatever city she was visiting. She was a huge Opera fan and held season tickets to the Dallas Opera for many years. She also enjoyed both the Dallas and Ft. Worth Symphonies and regularly attended productions by The Texas Ballet Theater.
Her other favorite pastimes included going to movies (and eating popcorn), reading crime dramas, weekly shopping excursions with her friend, Tracey, walking her dogs, and spoiling her godson, Dylan, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Susie greatly enjoyed travelling whether it was a simple road trip in Texas or a long journey to another continent. She often joined Kelly at her various work locations around the country and once drove herself all the way to Florida with their dogs, Garbo and Barclay, in tow. She also liked to include her nieces and nephews in her travels and some of her favorite places to visit included Maui, New York City, Ireland, France, and Alaska. She also delighted in trying new restaurants and splurging on fine dining wherever she went.
Susie had a special place in her heart for animals. She had many of her own pets over the years and donated consistently to multiple animal organization causes. Her kindness even extended to those animals who were visitors in her own backyard including racoons, squirrels, possums, birds and foxes.
Susie never met a stranger and was always the first to introduce herself wherever she went. Her feisty nature, warm heart, and loyalty to family and friends made her unforgettable. Her vivacious smile and sparkling blue eyes will remains in our hearts forever.
