

Irene Montoya, age 72, of Grand Prairie, Texas left this earthly home to be with God and reunited with her mother Ramona, and daughter Veronica on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by her son, family, and friends. Irene was born on Saturday, April 5, 1952, on a ranch in El Jaguey, Durango, Mexico to the parents of Juan Salazar and Ramona Cantu. At age 14 she made Dallas her home where Ramona Cantu established herself. Irene worked as an accountant at Sanger-Harris and Pollock Paper then accomplished a double master’s degree at Dallas Baptist University. Irene later taught at GPISD for over 25 years where she impacted many students over the years. She had two wonderful children, which were her proudest accomplishments.
In her free time, Irene loved traveling around the world with her sister/confidant Alicia, helping others, and spending time with her friends. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising exotic chickens and roosters. She found absolute joy in spending time with Armando and helping him through law school. Irene's family and friends will always remember her as an elegant and compassionate woman who was highly educated and loved God above all else.
She is preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Veronica Renee Cardenas; and loving parents Juan Salazar and Ramona Cantú.
The loved ones left to cherish Irene's memory are; her son, Armando Cardenas; son Drew Davila; brother, Jose Fernando Salazar; sister, Alicia Del Bosque; sister, good friend, Karl Gwynn; Estella Arroyo; sister, Naomi De La Garza; sister Carmen Quezada; and brother, George Rodriguez along with many friends, colleagues, and students. Irene's loving nature and charismatic personality will be truly missed.
