Irene was born on February 3, 1945 in Buffalo, New York to Oliver Hiller and Lauretta Johanna Wilhimina (Damphousse) Hiller. At the age of nine years old, the family moved to California where Irene attended school in the Pomona area and graduated from Ganesha High School. Out of high school, Irene began her career with the US Postal Service from 1963 until retiring in 1998. Not to stay idle after retirement, Irene began working from her home as a Tax Preparer for H&R Block and joined the Elks Lodge.
In 2000, Irene moved to Arlington to be closer to her children and their growing families in Texas. She became more active in the Elks Lodge where she served a Past Exalted Ruler, State and District Ritual Coach and was currently the Working Chaplain. Over the years she also gave of her time and her continued passion for helping others while serving for the Arlington School District as a Crossing Guard.
She was proud of being an Elk and also enjoyed singing, dancing, bingo, and board games, but her greatest love was spending time with her family. She will be remembered for being a proud and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis (Bill) A. Vodenichar and her brother, Robert Hiller.
She is survived by her sister, Edna Gray; children, Laura Chandler and Michael Scarth; grandchildren, Junior Chandler, Johanna Chandler and Michael Scarth III; great grandchildren, Victoria Chandler, Aubin Chandler and Nikolai Chandler; nieces, nephews other family and many friends, all who will miss her deeply.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the Elks Lodge #2114, 601 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas 76010. Inurnment will take place at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
