James "Doug" Douglas Bradham

In 1951, Doug married Lynda Atchley. Together they welcomed their pride and joy, Bruce Bradham, in November 1958. Following the death of Lynda in 1987, he married Mildred Tuxhorn in 1989. Doug and Millie shared many meaningful years together traveling the United States, enjoying their retirement, and carrying out their own form of mission work through helping close family and friends going through hard times such as childhood cancer.

Doug devoted his career to education and became widely known for his exceptional leadership as principal of Pope Elementary School in Arlington ISD. He was deeply loved by students, parents, and staff alike and was especially famous for the cherished tradition of “Mr. Bradham Day,” a testament to the lasting impact he made on generations of families.

While Doug was a beloved principal, he was an even greater grandfather. Papa Doug was always up for a trip to “Mac’s or Jacks”, loved taking his grandchildren to Six Flags, Big Wheel, and Blockbuster. Papa Doug had no qualms about riding the Texas Giant multiple times in a row and always made sure his grandchildren felt loved and were having fun.

Outside of his professional life, Doug found great joy in traveling in his motor home, exercising, singing hymns, and most importantly, being surrounded by his family.

James Douglas Bradham will be remembered for his servant leadership, strong faith, kindness, and the profound influence he had on countless students, families, and friends throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the many lives he shaped through education, compassion, and dedication.

He is survived by Mildred Bradham his loving wife, his beloved son, Bruce Bradham; daughter-in-law Janet Bradham; granddaughters Lauren Mazac and Carolyn Peterson; Lauren’s husband Dave; Carolyn’s husband Jerry; sister-in-law Barbara Parker; and his stepchildren, Bruce Tuxhorn and wife Loey, and Steve Tuxhorn and wife Beth. He also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
