Uncle was a kind and thoughtful person, and he always made me feel welcome each time I visited them during my personal and business trips to the States.  He was always a gracious host (with Auntie Alice and Cousin Courtney) and that encouraged me to visit them more often. My first visit to them was in Dec 2005 and I had the honor of being the "official photographer for his 40th birthday"..  One of the special things he would do for me is let me go shopping at The Parks Mall in Arlington. He'd drop me off at the mall and then hours later pick me up with a smile... I will miss the times spent with him and Auntie Alice sitting at the dining table, drinking coffee,  talking about God's Word for hours,  sharing what we have learned from our daily devotions and praying. Truly, "We have happy memories of the godly.." Proverbs 10:7 NLT. 

Lost a good neighbor and friend, but it was heaven’s gain. The great storyteller with larger-than-life personality, Jim, was part of our church group. If anyone could weave a tale into a great narrative, it was him. He said he learned the skill from his parents, who would use their storytelling abilities to minister to the elderly in their community in small-town western Pennsylvania. He also lived just around the corner and down the street from us for the past few years since we moved there. He was what I like to call “half Filipino” because, just like me, he was married to a Filipina, a mixed couple. For me, Jim’s dominant impression was his not childish but childlike faith in Christ alone. When he spoke of the object of his faith, it reminded me of the old Christine Wyrtzen song “Let the Children Come (to Jesus),” with the many lines about how “we must come ourselves to Jesus” as a child does in all his or her simplicity. Jim will be missed, especially at the many gatherings for food and fellowship that the Filipinos are famous for around here.

My husband and I went to Big Lots to buy a recliner. The sales personnel said that it would fit in the back of our car, so we bought it. When they were putting it in the back seat, they were having a hard time. I was sitting in the front passenger seat, and I uttered a simple prayer: "Lord, we need help," and I stepped out of the car and started helping the salespeople, when I heard my husband say, "They are our friends and neighbors." I said, "Whose friends?" and my husband said, "It's Jim and Alice!" I ran to the window next to Ate Alice and told her that I just uttered a prayer of help from the Lord, and “He sent you right away.” They had a truck, so they put the recliner in the back of their truck, and they brought it home. The recliner had two parts, so my husband carried the first part upstairs since we are living on the second floor. Then, Jim started to lift the other half, and I told him not to do it. I told him to just wait for my husband to come down and we'll both carry it upstairs. I told him, "I don't want you to hurt your back" because I knew he already had issues with his back. But his response was that "my back is already messed up; I don't want you to hurt your back." It was just amazing knowing a person like Jim, who would disregard his own pain and discomfort to make way for the wellbeing of others and for him to help in every way possible. Maybe the Lord called him home this early because, who knows, they are having construction up there in heaven and they need Jim's expertise to help. We were so blessed to know Jim (and his family of course), and we are so thankful for the Lord letting our paths cross and being friends with him.

We attended many YTB Travel Network meetings and conventions. He was a great person, loved people and always smiled.  We will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Alice.

I meet this man and his godly wife and daughter through my friend BJ Houska daughter of Darling Houska-Sexton. I went over to their house. He was working on a car early that day, but stopped all his activities to chat with me. I instantly perceived such a humble down to earth man's man. A man I wanted as a friend that you could talk to about anything. I know he is with our Lord Jesus Christ. So this is only a brief time away from a eternal reunion 

"He's a chip off the old block". That phrase was well-demonstrated in James (Jim's) life! He inherited his dad's gift of "Helps" & just like his father before him, Jim shared it with countless people during his lifetime.

I remember so well stopping by his family home many years ago & getting a little weak in the knees when I saw the entire content of my 1980 T-Bird engine compartment, sorted out in stacks across their garage floor. Jim saw my stunned expression & laughed his hardy laugh! He & his dad had offered to repair the engine as a favor to me. They put the whole thing back together & didn't forget a single bolt or nut in the process. It ran perfectly afterwards!

Probably the bigger part of the story was their refusal to accept payment for their time & tremendous effort. This has always stood out to me as a shining example of Jesus' love (expressed through the body of Christ) to others here on earth,

I know for certain Jim will be well-rewarded for his many kind acts by our Lord Jesus Christ. Although his passing has left an unfillable hole in our hearts for now, one day we'll be reunited in the presence of the Lord. What a joyous day that will be! 

James (Jim) Sexton was  our friend  and business partner for many many years. I will miss our long conversations, insightful moments, heartfelt laughs and high fives.  Jim and I shared wedding anniversaries and would connect at least each year for our annual sessions. All Jim talked about was his wife, daughter and family; he loved them so.  Jim was a faithful Christian and lived accordingly.

I met Jim, Alice, and Courtney over 15 years ago at High Point church and attended their small group for many years. Years after they would invite me over for dinner and we would usually have Jim and mine's favorite... Pizza. We would sit in the kitchen and talk about politics and religion for hours, laugh and always end in prayer. Jim was an incredible husband and father. He was like a friend, a brother and father figure all in one to me. I will miss him greatly and yet I know Heaven is thrilled of his arrival.

We have known Jim since they move to Arlington, Texas. He was always available when we needed him. Our sons call on Uncle Jim for advice for house or car repairs. As young as he was we have learned a lot from him about God, life and love. His wife, Alice is my (Arlene) best friend for 40 years. We will miss him very much. but he is with the Lord. We will see him again someday. Praise the Lord for Jim’s life!

We are stunned at the loss of this good man. We first met Jim 14 years ago when he and his friend Vince built a major addition to our home. The result was superb and still admired by others. Jim was instantly likable and always cheerful. 
Over the years we have enjoyed knowing Jim and Alice. I love the memories of Jim roaring up on his motorcycle. That vision will live on. Most of all we cherish the fact Jim loved the Lord just as is true of Alice.
The world was a better place with Jim.
Shouldn't the rest of us reach for that simple end?


Jimmy was such a good guy, from teenager on up all the years I have known him. He and Alice made the cutest couple ever. My heart is grieved and rejoicing at the same time . I know Jim loved the lord and to my knowledge has been a devout Christian Man all these years. Our prayers are with Alice , Darlin, Ron and Starlit and family.  When Jim was 16 we had a Chevy wagon that had no heat, we drove for 2 years not able to afford what the dealership wanted for the repair- Jim looked at it and fixed it in 5 minutes .  What a kid !!!
