She was born on Friday, November 1, 1957, in Moultrie, Georgia, to Charles Eckerly and Dorothy Ann Eckerly. She married her college sweetheart, Jerry Kirby, and together they raised two children, DeeAnna Ownby and Jessie Kirby. Julia was a proud grandmother to Caleb and Katelyn Ownby, and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her third grandchild, Ivar Santiago Kirby, expected in June 2025. Ivar is the first child for son Jessie and daughter-in-law, Nyssa Renee Kirby.
Known to many as “Dee,” Julia had a deep love for dogs, children, and the beach. She cherished traveling with her two sisters, Michelle McConnell and SueAnne Reynolds, and found joy in time spent with family and friends, including long-time best friend Patty Bell Kennedy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and the thought of their reunion brings comfort to those who mourn her passing. Until we meet again, we will carry her memory and her love with us, always.
