Kenneth Wayne Wingate

Kenneth (Buddy) Wayne Wingate, 93, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in Arlington, Texas. Buddy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 26, 1921 to C.L. Wingate and Zora Faye Engels Wingate. He graduated from Wewoka High School. Buddy attended the U.S. Naval Academy and graduated on June 7, 1944; on the same afternoon, he married his wife of 70 years, Lovella Ligon Wingate, also of Wewoka, in Washington D.C. Buddy served om an aircraft carrier (the Moneterey) in the Pacific Fleet for the duatio of the war.

Buddy and his wife settled in Wewoka where he operated Wingate Oil jCompany until 1195. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club, the Wewoka High School Alumni Club, and was active in all of his children's activities. He especially enjoyed teaching his children and their friends to water ski on Wewoka Lake and loved to talk to everyone he met on the street. Followin ghis retirement, Buddy and Lovella moved to Sarasota, Florida for the next fourteen years. Four and half years ago they made their final move to a retirement home in Arlington, Texas.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Lovella, his two daughters, Sandra Holmberg of Washington, Missouri and Patricia Bevelhymer of Fort Worth, Texas. His son, Buddy James Wingate, preceded him in death in 2009. He was salso preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Claybrook, of Wewoka, and Hazel Wingate of Dallas, Texas. In addition, Buddy is survived by one sister, Mary Bergquist, of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. He is survived by five grandchildren, Anne Holmberg Jesperson of Custer, Wyoming, Jon Holmberg of Broomfield, Colorado, Brent Bevelhymer of McKinney, Texas, Beth Bevelhymer Bishop of Menlo Park, California, and Sarah Bevelhymer Startti of Wake Forest, North Carolinga. Buddy is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, David Jesperson, Michael Jesperson, Samantha Holmberg, Katherine Holmberg, Olivia Startti, Caroline Startti, Hayes Startti, Jackson Bishop, Grayson Bishop, and Tristan Bevelhymer.
