Margaruite Fulfer Jordan, of Arlington, passed away in Tyler, Texas after a brief illness. She was welcomed into Heaven by our Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday morning, February 5, 2020. Mrs. Jordan was one of the greatest generation, as she was a World War II widow.
Her story began in the community of Grayland in Lamar County, Texas on February 15, 1927. In those days in rural North Central Texas their house had no electricity until she was a teenager. Life was hard, as these words she wrote in 1971 attest. “Canning corn was an all-day job for the whole family. It had to be carefully selected and pulled at the corn patch, shucked, silked, cut off the cob, put in cans, sealed, pressured in a cooker, and then cooled in tubs of water. All of our garden vegetables and fruits were picked and canned in much the same manner. The potatoes were dug and stored in the corn crib, and the onions were tied in bunches and hung in the barn. Hogs were slaughtered and the meat rubbed with a salt mixture to preserve it and hung in the smoke house.”
She did thrive in those days, as all of her brothers and sisters did, and as a young teenager she fell in love with an older Jordan boy who lived close to the them. She waited for him to come back from the European theater after his Army service in World War II. He realized what a striking young lady she had become, and they were married on December 6, 1947. They moved to Fort Worth to work at the Bomber Plant in the late 1940s and then settled in Arlington where she lived until her death. She was a charter member and still a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church in Arlington. Her church family showed her great love for many years.
She had a welcoming committee in Heaven made up of her husband D.W. who died in 1986; her son Roger; her daughter Cheryl; her parents, James and Betty Ragsdale Fulfer; and her brothers and sisters J.C., John, Bill, Nancy, and Cora; among other loved ones and people that she led to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ. She did love to show people the way to eternal salvation.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law Rita and Gary Salyer of Troup, Texas; her grandson and fiancé Trent Salyer and Kasey Shaw of Fort Worth; sister and brother in law Patsy and Glynn Stevens of Tom, Oklahoma, and beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 2212 North Davis Drive in Arlington at 10:00 am on Monday, February 10, 2020. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday February 9, 2020 at Moore Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on North Davis.
