She was born Marjorie Ruth Davis on Feb. 27, 1930, in Memphis, Texas, to Shaler and Cordelia Davis. She graduated valedictorian from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1947. In 1950 she graduated from North Texas State College with a B.A. in speech and education with a minor in English. She married Marcus Edward Kemp in 1950 in Dallas; he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2001.
Survivors: Son, Michael and wife, Judy, of Midlothian; son, Philip and wife, Muriel, of Norman, Okla.; daughter, Lauren Nessler and husband, Kerry, of Rowlett; grandchildren, Kelly, Evan and husband, Wade, Kevin, Christopher, Kara, Brent and Julie.
