Marvin D. Crawford, 72, of Arlington, Texas, passed from this life into the next on Monday, April 5th 2021. He was born a Texan, in Dallas at Methodist Hospital on Jan. 11th 1949, to the very luck parents of Edna and Oran Crawford.
Marvin’s grandmother Tipp lived with the family and she loved him dearly, and abundantly. Marv was always a very smart person. When he was small and inquisitive he would open all the cabinet doors that he could get his little hands on. His mother and his grandmother thought they could cure him of this by taping pictures of monsters inside of the cabinet doors. However, that only entertained him more. He was a good one to go to a scary movie with because he always made me feel safe. He kept telling me “It’s not real, it’s not real.”
When in kindergarten, the class had tomato juice at snack time. Marv did not like tomato juice, so he left the building and went home.
In high school, for music, he chose to play the tuba. His reasoning for this was “I didn’t have to drag anything home and I didn’t have to practice.” (He was very smart indeed.)
Marv and I first spoke to each other when we were 21 years old. We were next-door neighbors, with a vacant lot between us.
Marv, having seen me at my parents’ house asked his mother who I was, and his mother told him “one of those Paul girls” (I have 3 sisters).
I remember I was getting out of my car (68 maroon Camaro) when Marv stopped and we talked. When he asked me out, I was not sure at first if he liked my car or me. He was such a car “guy”. From that time on, we were soul mates.
Why so long before we married? I believe now that God had a plan for the both of us. We are of different religions, he Church of Christ and I Catholic. He and I both being of stubborn persuasion, made war, not love for many years. During that time, he helped and took care of many people and things. Having never forgotten, or given up on each other. Once God’s plan for us separately had been taken care, His plan for us together started.
He worked 47 years, June 19, 1967 to April 30, 2014 at LTV/Vought/Triumph. He had many titles and many types of jobs during that time. He started in the paint shop and worked his way up. He did a lot of traveling for the company and enjoyed it very much. Although, he always told me that he would first find out what year the plane was made before he would get on it, and if the plane had been made after a certain year, that plane could leave without him. (I wish I could remember what year.)
He thrived on responsibility, and was proud of the accomplishments he made. He also very proud of the work with Junior Achievement. He loved working and talking with young adults and children.
He had a large workshop at home and enjoyed rebuilding old machine equipment, including cars, trucks, Cushman & Vespa scooters. He enjoyed working with his parents on the farm and loved to make things out of wood for me.
Marvin was a very loving, kind, good, forgiving, special man. I believe many loved him dearly, and that he will be deeply missed.
He is no longer in pain of any kind and is now at peace. We who love him may rejoice in the knowledge that he has joined our savior Lord Jesus Christ in His heavenly house.
