Michael Dewayne Applon was born on December 18, 1969 to the parentage of John Ronald and Margaret Ann Applon in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District, graduating from Trinity High School in 1988. He went on to pursue his secondary education at Wichita Falls State University while playing basketball and pursuing more knowledge in education. Michael was forever a student…always elevating his mind to learn more and do more.
In1989, Michael and Amanda officially began their courtship and married on October 9, 1993. Three beautiful children were added to this blessed union: Derrick, Pheobe, and Elijah.
Along with the love for his family, he shared a love for sports. Michael was extremely competitive! Whether playing basketball, bowling or dominoes, it was always “game on” with Michael. A few of his proudest moments included establishing the 3-time Championship basketball team “BLENDED” with his son (Derrick) and organizing the first 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for The DMA (Derrick Michael Applon) Foundation, in honor of his late son.
His passion was to spur others to greatness, starting at home and beyond. He was eager to assist with sharpening the skillsets of others in various areas. In doing so, he became affectionately known as “Mr. A”, Brother, and Friend.
Michael’s leadership overflowed into his spiritual life and service in the Kingdom. He consistently sought to have a deeper intimacy with God and was intentional about leading his family under the guidance of the Word and the Holy Spirit. His spiritual walk included his humble service as an Ordained Deacon at the Greater Mt. Tabor Christian Center, The Potter’s House of Dallas and The Potter’s House of Fort Worth for the past 10 years. Along with his devoted wife of 27 years, they served as Marital Coaches and Mentors in the TPHFW Marriage Ministry. They also led the Grief & Loss Small Group Ministry. Michael was a faithful servant who touched the hearts of many. His devoted service and love for others will never be forgotten.
Michael was also a cherished employee of the United Parcel Service for over 20 years, where he and his colleagues became a family. He would often be seen or heard giving advice to fellow employees whether it be personal, work related, or spiritual. Michael did not mind volunteering his services in any capacity needed. He will be fondly remembered for his loving and caring spirit.
His smile was genuine. His heart was big. His arms were always open. His voice was full of laughter and encouragement. All that know Michael, knew he was a man of God, loved his family, and gave freely.
