It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the passing of Oma Lajuan Stevens Jusko, who departed from this world May 13th at the age of 90 at her daughter’s home in Newcastle, ME. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unconditional love.
Born on October 5,1934 in Sulphur Bluff, TX to Leta Faye Ramsey Stevens and William Clarence Stevens, LaJuan lived a life filled with meaning, purpose, and love. Her warmth, wisdom and compassion touched the lives of countless people.
Lajuan graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and attended the Methodist School of Nursing in Dallas, TX where she graduated RN Class of ‘56. She remained passionate about her career as a nurse well into her 70’s. That same year she married Air Force Lt. Vincent Jusko, and they immediately started a family. Her greatest joy came from her children, whom she cherished above all else.
Lajuan was an avid, lifelong seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family all the way down to her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping with her family as a young mother and RV’ing with her husband well into their retirement. She had a generous spirit and counted all those she met as a friend. She had a strength and fortitude when facing life’s challenges and was practical in the way an East Texas farm kid raised in the 30’s a 40’s would be. To her children she was a model of resilience and grace.
She is survived by her six children: Cynthia and son-in-law Jon Parker of New Castle, ME, Matthew and daughter-in-law Tammy Jusko of Mansfield, TX, Melissa and son-in-law Jeff Crouch of Arlington, TX, Melanie and son-in-law Steve Hancock of Lubbock, TX, William and daughter-in-law Carol Jusko of Flippin, AR, and Michael and daughter-in law Jodie Jusko of Arlington, TX.
Lajuan was kissed by 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many more sweet children in her extended family, along with nieces and nephews who will all carry forward her values, compassion, and loving spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Vincent, her sisters Anna Herd, Joan Cannon, brother William Stevens and her great-granddaughter Lola Faye Dossey.
The family welcomes all who knew her to attend services Monday, June 16th at St Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1200 S. Davis Drive, Arlington, TX. Rosary at 12:30 PM. Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. Interment will be 3:15 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The American Heart Association reflecting Lajuan’s love and devotion to her beloved great granddaughter Lola Faye Dossey.
"May the light of heaven shine upon your face Oma Lajuan Jusko. You will be forever loved and missed."
