

Roger was born on September 27th, 1945, to James and Nellie Moore of Lynchburg, Virginia. Roger remained in Lynchburg and graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1965. In December of that same year, Roger met his future wife, Thelma Elaine Bosiger and they were married on June 21st, 1968. Roger and Elaine brought into this world a beautiful daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Moore, on June 6th, 1972.
Roger joined the Naval Reserves during his junior year of high school. After graduating high school in 1965 he served his country with a tour in Norfolk, VA on the USS Robert L. Wilson, a Navy destroyer. Roger was next stationed in Richmond, VA before heading to the Chicago, IL area for shore duty. Roger then returned to Norfolk, VA and served on the USS Inflict, a Navy mine sweeper. After his tour on the USS Inflict, Roger and family settled in the Dallas area at the Naval Air Station and Red Com II for the next 6 years and then retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1992 with 27 years of Naval service.
After retirement, Roger spent most of his time participating in Mountain Man historical reenactments all over the Southwest, where Roger and Elaine would dress period, camp, cook and shoot competitively with likeminded people.
Roger was predeceased by his father James Moore, mother Nellie Moore, brother Larry Moore and sister-in-law Betty Moore. Roger is survived by his wife Elaine Moore, daughter Sarah Butler, son-in-law Mitchell Butler and two grandsons, Jake Butler and Kyle Butler. Roger is also survived by niece Janice Wells and her husband Jimmy Wells, niece Diane White and her husband Timothy White, and great nieces Michelle Wells, Brandy White, McKayla White and Jessie White.
Roger requested cremation and that no formal memorial services be held. His wish was that each person honor and celebrate him in a manner that was personal and meaningful to them.
