Roxie Roberts Mayhugh, age 87, passed into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the promises of eternal life. She was born on Thursday, February 9, 1939, to Effie and Willie Roberts in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
Roxie was a gifted student and a woman of remarkable grace, intelligence, and charm. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School and went on to attend Henderson State Teachers College, where she excelled in every part of campus life. She was named to Who’s Who, elected Miss Henderson State Teachers College by the student body, and chosen as a cheerleader. She was a member of the Heart and Key service organization, served as president of the Student Christian Association, Vice President of the National Student Educational Association, was selected as a class favorite, served as co-captain of the HSTC cheerleaders, and was also a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority.
She married the love of her life, Edward Franklin “Eddie” Mayhugh, and together they built a beautiful life marked by deep devotion, joy, and faithfulness. After their marriage, they moved to Arlington, Texas where Roxie began a 30-year teaching career as a beloved first-grade teacher. She was named Teacher of the Year several times and left a lasting mark on generations of children and families. Many of her former students returned through the years just to visit her, a testament to the love and encouragement she gave so freely. She also helped train other teachers, sharing her gifts and wisdom with those entering the profession.
To have Roxie as a teacher was a blessing. For many families, it felt like winning the lottery. Mike fondly remembered parents and children standing at the school’s glass doors during the summer, waiting to find out which teacher they had been assigned, and some literally jumping up and down with excitement when they learned they had his mother.
Roxie was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose joy filled every room she entered. She raised her family in the church and made sure faith was at the center of their home. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, youth leader, and choir member. Church was not simply something Roxie attended; it was woven into the life of her family and became one of the greatest sources of their joy as they worshiped and learned about Jesus together.
To know Roxie was to know laughter. Life with her was often like a comedy sitcom, full of unusual mishaps and unforgettable moments that somehow only seemed to happen to her. These little adventures never harmed anyone, but they became treasured stories that brought joy to all who loved her. Her sense of humor, her vibrant spirit, and her gift for making life memorable will never be forgotten.
Roxie deeply loved her family. She absolutely adored her granddaughters and was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother. Her love was warm, generous, and constant, and her family will carry that legacy of love with them always.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward Franklin “Eddie” Mayhugh, whom she missed dearly. Together, they were a shining example of love, devotion, and partnership. Those who knew them saw in them a beautiful picture of marriage at its best. While her family grieves her loss, they also rejoice in the promise that Roxie and Eddie are now reunited in heaven.
She is survived by her two sons, Mike and his wife Lisa, and Mark and his wife Stephanie Mayhugh; her grandchildren, Meagan and her husband Brandon Masi, Mikala and her husband Jonathan Teer, Calisha and her husband Alexander Dolan, and Alicia Mayhugh; her great-grandchildren, Dawson Masi, Christopher Teer, Isaac Dolan, and Oliver Hammonds; Cliff and Lauri Hemming and their children, Cody and his wife Jarely Hemming, and Cassidy Hemming; and a close friend, Tommy Mueller.
Roxie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her family takes comfort in knowing that her faith has become sight, her joy is now complete, and she is home with her Savior.
