Ruth Marie Johnston

Ruth Marie Lange was born on August 6, 1940, in San Antonio, to Amma and Gus Lange. Less than 5 years later she was joined by her sister and best friend Martha. Both girls were the light of their parents’ lives, as well as grandparents and three aunts, Dorothy, Ruth and Dutch. Amma and her 3 sisters all lived on the same block within walking distance of each other.

At age 21, Ruth married Keith Piersall and their only child, Mark Allan was born just after Christmas of 1961. He was her pride and joy and raising him was easy with babysitting supplied by teenage Martha, grandparents, and the aunts. Every Sunday included a regular Family Dinner with all in attendance.

Like her mother, Ruth worked for the government, first with the Texas Highway Department and later for HUD. In 1976, following a divorce, Ruth and Mark moved to Fort Worth where she worked for the Federal Government in several capacities, finally retiring from the Federal Transit Administration.

Ruth married Ron Johnston in February 1985. Her time was spent working and attending football and baseball games for Mark through high school and college. She loved travelling, often going to Florida to visit her sister and to San Antonio to visit friends and family. She enjoyed family gatherings, lunches and activities with her many, many friends and Shopping ---- Lots and Lots of Shopping!

Just a few highlights of her life included:

- Winning a contest for drawing a dress that was used by Marvel Comics in “Katy Keene.”

- Retiring in 2014, as a GS 12, reaching her goal of 40 years of service.

- Leaving a lasting impression on her many devoted friends and family.

Ruth is survived by her husband Ron of Arlington, sister Martha Bain (Reed) of North Carolina, Son Mark Piersall (Kathryn) of Frisco, nephews Kelly Bain of Florida and Shannon Bain (Joy) of Paris, France, Stepchildren Kevin Johnston (Angie) of Weatherford and Cindy Mills (Michael) of Addison. She was very proud of her 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-niece.
