

Virginia was born on May 17, 1933, in Plainville, Connecticut, to Howard Irving Purdy and Hazel Esther Simons Purdy. She grew up in Plainville, where she formed lifelong memories and friendships.
In 1960, she married the love of her life, George W. Hixon. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Virginia dedicated her professional life to caring for others. She graduated from Nursing School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1956 and proudly served as an Air Force nurse. She later worked as a Registered Nurse for 30 years at Arlington Memorial Hospital, where she was respected for her skill, compassion, and steady presence.
Her commitment to service extended beyond her nursing career. She was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Past Worthy Matron of Lonnie L. Blake Chapter #1116. She also served as Past President of Arlington Chapter #189 of the Social Order of the Beauceant.
Virginia had a warm and gentle spirit and was a gifted storyteller who loved sharing memories with those around her. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, and working puzzles, but most of all, she treasured spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Hixon; her father, Howard Purdy; her mother, Hazel Purdy; her sister, Barbara DeClark; and her brother, Robert Purdy.
She is survived by her sons, David H. Hixon, Timothy Mullen, and Mark W. Hixon; her daughters, Keren E. McCulloch and her husband, Jeff, Linda Guhr and her husband, Steve, and Carla Hixon; her grandchildren, Seth W. Hixon and Pebbles Duran, Leah B. Hixon, and Hannah Bolt and Gage Tijerina; her niece, Ellen Lovins and her husband, Russell; and her great-nephews, Jared Lovins and Jason Lovins.
Virginia’s life was one of service, kindness, leadership, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
