A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at Arborlawn United Methodist Church, 5001 Briarhaven Road in Fort Worth.
Bill was born October 8, 1946, to Carolyn Wessler Snider and Dr. Richard Allen Snider.
He earned a finance degree from Texas Tech University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He received a J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He also supported the TCU Frogs to appease his wife Phyllis, who he married in 1985.
Bill worked for Cantey Hanger law firm in Fort Worth from 1971 - 1983 when he established the firm of Snider and Moore in Arlington. In 1994, he became in-house counsel for his primary client, Moritz Interests, Ltd., where he remained for 30 years.
Continuing his family’s legacy of leadership, Bill was elected to the Arlington City Council in 1983 and served until 1991. He filled the district 1 seat his mother held from 1975 to 1982, until her unexpected passing. His father also served on the Council from 1948-1952.
He also served as President of the Arlington Sports Authority from 1991-1998, providing financial oversight for land acquisition and construction of The Ballpark in Arlington which opened in1994.
Perhaps Bill’s most significant legacy was his role in securing land donations and funding for what has grown to be one of the largest public space land preserves in North Texas, River Legacy Parks. Bill presented the vision to the City Council in 1984, encouraging the City to establish a public private partnership to provide stewardship and financing for the linear park. Forty years later, the park totals more than 1,300 acres along the Trinity River. In 1991, the City honored Bill and his parents for their investment in Arlington by dedicating the stream that runs through the park as Snider Legacy Creek.
Bill was a member of the State Bar of Texas for more than 50 years. He served on several local boards and commissions including Arlington Big Brothers, Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and the Tarrant County 9-1-1 Board.
An avid animal lover and equestrian, Bill enjoyed participating in cutting horse events for many years and supported several organizations devoted to animal welfare.
He is survived by wife Phyllis Meisenheimer Snider; daughter Margaret Carolyn Snider and son Robert Wessler Snider; sister Carol Ann Fisher and husband Tom; brothers-in-law David Meisenheimer, Danny and wife Jen Meisenheimer, and Darrell Meisenheimer; nephews Geoff and Matt Fisher, Will Meisenheimer; and nieces Caitlin Meisenheimer Wittman, Allison, and Megan Meisenheimer.
