Douglas Carl Caton, 61, of Litchfield, passed away April 8th, 2021.
Doug was born in Bath, Maine to Carl Caton and Gisela Gieser on June 9th, 1959. He graduated from Livermore High School in 1978 and continued his education through Washington County Vocational Technical Institute. Doug continued expanding his knowledge and skills in the art of welding, making him arguably the best welder in the state of Maine. He married Louise in May of 1988. Soon after they welcomed a son, Nicholas Caton in 1988, and daughter Jennifer Caton in 1991. Doug remarried to Tiffany in 2000 and gained two daughters, Danielle Beaton and Kearsten Lamoreau.
He worked for Hahnel Bros. Co. for over 25 years, with his good friend Paul Obie, working across New England. Doug furthered his employment with Johnson & Jordan in 2010, where he quickly became a valued asset as a welder and fabricator. Many of his accomplishments were designing multiple aspects of the helicopter pad at Maine Med., and many custom stainless-steel projects at hospitals all across Maine. Over the years, Doug has obtained and upheld various welding licenses. He founded Caton’s Welding and Fab where customers and friends could rely on him to complete a project from design to finish.
Doug was a dedicated member of the Morning Star Lodge #41, in Litchfield, Maine. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 2013 and graduated to Master Mason in 2014. He enjoyed volunteering his time as a Free Mason with the Bikes for Books program and other community events. You could find Doug enjoying his time at the drag races, Rockland Blues festival, and surrounded by friends. He was always a kid at heart and had an infectious laugh and smile. Doug’s greatest pride and joy was spending time with his family. When he wasn’t with them, he was sharing stories about them to everyone he knew. He is well known for telling stories multiple times over, didn’t matter the subject.
Doug is preceded in death by his father, Carl Caton, and mother, Gisela Selman. He is survived by his son, Nicholas Caton of Lewiston, ME; and his daughters Jennifer Caton and fiancé Justin Desrosiers of Monmouth, ME, Danielle and Robert Beaton II of Auburn, ME, and Kearsten and Trevor Lamoreau Jr. of Pensacola, FL. His siblings Arlene Welch, Irene Couture, Nancy Chaney, and John Selman. His much loved grandchildren Mason and Violet Lamoreau, and his dogs, Bronx and Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, we will be accepting monetary donations at the visitations and service to be donated to the Morning Star Lodge #41.
