Gail Newton Craig, a beloved, selfless, and honest woman, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 13, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on April 8, 1944, in Lewiston, Maine, Gail grew up in South Paris, ME, where she attended local area schools and graduated from Paris High School. She continued her education at Bliss College, formerly located in Lewiston, ME.
Gail devoted over 40 years to the insurance industry and served as a dedicated office manager for The Whitmore Agency in Auburn, ME. Her influence in the industry was significant, and she was honored as Insurance Woman of the Year.
On June 12, 1971, Gail married Elsmore "Butch" Craig. The couple moved to Minot, Maine, in 1972, where they raised their family of four children.
In her personal life, Gail enjoyed fishing, watching sports, particularly her grandchildren's games, and had a passion for auto racing. She also loved to travel with Butch in their RV, creating many cherished memories.
Gail is survived by her husband, Elsmore C. "Butch" Craig; her daughters, Nancy B. Craig, Shelah J. Rawstron (Ryan), and Janet M. Craig; her son, Brian N. Craig (Gretchen); her grandchildren, Clifford Craig (Ashley), Michael Rawstron (Kyra), Nicholas Labbe (Colleen), Cody Craig (Kassidy), Levi Craig, Abigail Fuller, Alexis "Lexi" Fuller, Joseph "JT" Fuller, and Gavin Rawstron; her great-grandchildren, Meagan, Thatcher, Ella, Addilynn, Beckett, Bowden, and Owen; and her sisters, Jean Newton (Andrew), Mary Rawlings (Chuck), and Beth Heino (Dennis).
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Kora Temple, 11 Sabattus St, Lewiston, ME, on January 23, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at a later date at the same venue starting at 4:00 pm.
Gail will be laid to rest at Center Hill Cemetery in Minot. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Lung Association at www.action.lung.org in her memory.
