

Don was born in Lewiston in 1936 to the late Camille & Leonie (Lavoie) Belleville. He grew up in Lewiston, graduating from St. Dom's Academy in 1954. Upon graduation, Don joined the US Navy and served four years aboard the USS James C. Owens. While in the Navy he married Glennis Cornish of Bowdoin, ME. They had four children together.
After his four years in the Navy, Don graduated from the University of Maine in Orono, with a bachelor's degree in education. He taught Social Studies for eight years at Jordan School in Lewiston. Being very involved in his local teacher's association, Don was asked to join the Maine Education Association in Augusta, serving as a Uniserv Director to give support to local associations in Aroostook County. It was there he met his second wife, Mary A. Rossignol, and they married in 1974 and Don adopted her son.
Don later became Director of Training for the MEA and retired as Deputy Executive Director in 2002. Don was also a trainer for the National Education Association, traveling the country doing workshops and conferences for teachers.
In retirement Don and Mary enjoyed camping and traveling the country in tent trailers and later a motorhome. Their longest trip was through the Canadian Provinces, up to the Yukon and then into Alaska.
Don loved photography and enjoyed organizing on his computer the thirty thousand plus pictures he took.
Don leaves behind his wife Mary of fifty-two years, his son Steve Belleville of Socorro, NM, his daughter Julie Corey and her husband Dan of Presque Isle, ME, his daughter Tina Fitzherbert and her husband Rick of Presque Isle, his son Scott Belleville and his wife Marylynn of North Carolina and Long Island, NY and his son Chris Belleville, his partner Melissa Williams of Auburn. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, his brother-in-law John Chouinard of Jay, ME, his dog "Ocho" and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Dorothy Chouinard and the father-in-law of the late Elaina Belleville.
Don's family would like to profoundly thank all the skilled and caring professionals who attended to him at St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Beyond their professionalism their caring and kindness is much appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 10 - 11 am at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 217 Turner St, Auburn, ME. A memorial service, including military honors, will follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn, ME.
