Born on August 12, 1947, in Lewiston, Maine, Leo was the cherished son of Theresa (Gaudreau) Ouellette and Arthur Ouellette. He graduated from Lewiston High School before proudly serving his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, completing two tours in Vietnam as a combat engineer.
Following his military service, Leo pursued training at Central Maine Technical College and became a skilled electrician. He went on to work for 23 years at Bath Iron Works before finishing his career with the City of Auburn.
In 1971, Leo married the love of his life, Nancy (Mardosa) Ouellette, after meeting in ninth grade. Their 53-year marriage was a testament to enduring love and devotion. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and family.
Leo was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Paul and Richard Ouellette, and his beloved grandson, Evan Reed Culleton. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Nancy, and their three daughters: Deirdre Hamilton and husband David; Lianna Culleton and husband Shawn; and Joanna Norton and husband Gregg.
His greatest joy was his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure: Ella and Katherine Hamilton, Emma and Eli Culleton, and Noah and Owen Norton.
Leo is also survived by his brother Robert Ouellette and wife Jeanette; his sisters Pauline Gagnon and husband Rodney, and Connie LeBlond; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives he touched.
Leo will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering work ethic, and his wonderful sense of humor. Whether telling a story, taking a quick 15-minute nap, or offering a warm, cheerful welcome, Leo had a gift for making everyone feel at home.
He found great joy in the simple pleasures—riding his Mahindra tractor, fixing things around the house, picking blueberries, fishing for bass in his pond, and four-wheeling through the woods. A constant tinkerer and clever problem-solver, Leo could always be found with a tool in hand and a smile on his face.
He was, above all, a devoted husband, a proud father and pépère, a faithful friend, and a true American patriot. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Leo’s life will be held at East Auburn Baptist Church on Saturday July 19, 2025, at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Leo by spending time outdoors with those you love—and maybe taking a quick nap in his memory.
