She was born in Lewiston, Maine on July 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Carroll Sudds & Louise E. (Cobb) Sudds. Nancy grew up with her sister Jean Goding of Auburn, and a foster brother and sister, George and Barbara Bickford who came to live with them in their early teens after their parents passed away, as well as her 5 cousins who were like sisters.
Nancy graduated from Edward Little High School in 1955, then continued on to The University of Maine at Orono where she majored in French and minored in Spanish and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959. Upon graduating, Nancy began a teaching position at Monmouth Academy. That same year Nancy married Oliver D. Morris on November 26, 1959 and was married for 55 years.
She taught at Monmouth Academy for 37 years from 1959-1996 where she taught French and Latin and a few years of English and Spanish. While there Nancy co-started the first program for gifted and talented students, was an Advisor to the National Honor Society and also the French Club, and a Co-Coach to the Academic Decathlon Team and the Academic Advocate. She planned trips for her students to Quebec City, Paris, France and Boston to expand their knowledge and enhance their life experiences. Her name was added to the Wall of Fame, the Language Department was named after her and upon her retirement a flower garden in her name was planted in 1996 by the French 4 Class.
Nancy had a passion for knowledge and every day she strived to sharpen her mind. She accomplished this by being an avid reader. Daily, she read the Sun Journal, Portland Press Herald, Boston Globe and the New York Times forming her own opinion of the Op Eds and enjoying the Ann Landers and Sun Spots columns. She would complete all the crossword puzzles and Sudukos. For some light reading she enjoyed all genres, her favorite book being Le Petit Prince, also magazines, Birds in Bloom, People, TV Guide and Soap Opera Digest. Nancy had a bit of competitiveness and played along with TV shows Jeopardy which she tried out for and qualified but chose not to compete, and other shows Wheel of Fortune and Price is Right.
Nancy joys in life were her family, summers spent at Brettuns Pond, floating in her pool, her cat Misty and French poodle Coco. Nancy also loved Valentine's Day and drinking jamocha shakes. She had a love for art, especially Impressionistic; Monet’s Water Lillies, Mary Cassatt’s The Child’s Bath, Van Gogh, Renior and Degas to name a few.
Her love for art became a hobby for her of water color painting, and some colored pencil drawing. Other hobbies included gardening, participating on 2 online Trivia teams, and editing online letters to a world-wide group called “Today’s Bright”. Nancy enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless and the Red Sox, keeping statistic sheets on each player, with her all-time favorite being Carlton Fisk.
Nancy loved to have yard sales for the social interaction and charitable aspect. She would price items but then give them away for free and would say she did not care about the money, but rather enjoyed more meeting the people that came by.
