AUBURN- Norman J. Stebbins, 86, a resident of Auburn, Maine, passed away on Sunday night, April 1, at Clover Manor. He was born December 2, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Rose Mary Charland and Anthony J. Stebbins. Norman was a Marine serving overseas in the Korean War. He worked as a finish carpenter, a truck driver, and spent 20 years as a carpenter at Bath Iron Works in Brunswick before retiring. On September 14, 1956, he married Alice Elizabeth Davis. They raised their 4 children in their home of 52 years on North River Road. Norman was an incredibly hardworking and creative man. A proud Marine, artist, and craftsman, he was a perfectionist and brought meticulous attention to detail in everything he did. He had an incredible passion and love for animals. Whether it was a stray cat, a skunk and all her babies, the hundreds of different birds that visited his yard each day, or the chipmunks he fed by hand, he prided himself in taking care of them all. He had an incredible green thumb and compulsively maintained his yard and beautiful gardens. When he wasn’t working on his yard, he was challenging you to a game of cards and probably winning. Norman is survived by his brother, John Stebbins of Lewiston, sons Greg Stebbins and his wife, Paulette, of Rocklin, California, Randy Stebbins and his wife, Deborah “Debbie”, of New Gloucester, Mark Stebbins and his wife, Michelle “Mikie”, of Poland and by his daughter Terry Lacasse and husband, Randy, of Haymarket, Virginia; grandchildren, Monica Judd Campbell, Angela Judd Newcomb, Jessica Bina, Karyn Lam, Lori Stebbins, Kelley Stebbins, Rileigh Stebbins, Sydney Stebbins, Stephanie Lacasse and Cooper Lacasse; great grandchildren, Nathan Vining, Ashley Campbell, Caleb Newcomb, Ella Lam, Easton Lam, Elliott Lam, Rowan Bina and Finnegan Bina. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice E. Stebbins, his father and mother, his sisters, Rita Marek, Theresa Ziemba, and Jeannette Applegate, and his grandson, Jason Gregory Stebbins. The family would like to thank the staff of Clover Manor, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for the exceptional, loving care they provided Norman and his family during his last days.
